New Partnerships Propel Floating Wind Growth
Key partnerships bolster Odfjell Oceanwind's capacity for development.
In early 2021, Aneo (formerly Trønderenergi), the second-largest Nordic operator of onshore wind, and Blystad Group, a leading Norwegian investor, became shareholders. This marked a pivotal year where Odfjell Oceanwind built its management team and onboarded key resources to position for anticipated growth within the floating offshore wind industry.
2022
Strategic Review and Focus Shift
Geopolitical uncertainty shapes a new strategic direction.
In 2022, Odfjell Oceanwind concentrated on building the company and pursuing projects that ultimately did not materialize. These challenges prompted a strategic review, resulting in a decision to focus on developing its own projects and taking active equity roles in select ventures, reinforcing its long-term vision.
2023
Milestones and Global Partnerships
A year of groundbreaking initiatives and global collaborations.
In early 2023, Odfjell Oceanwind applied for Utsira Nord concessions in Norway and unveiled the Deepsea Star™ floater design for the UtsiraVIND and GoliatVIND projects. By summer, Kansai Electric Power Company and INGKA Investments joined the UtsiraVIND consortium, followed by Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd., becoming a strategic shareholder in October. The year concluded with Kansai confirmed as a shareholder in GoliatVIND.
2024
Innovations and Breakthroughs
Pioneering technologies and significant funding secure the future.
February 2024 saw the launch of Windsteel Technologies, a joint initiative with Prodtex to address manufacturing bottlenecks in floating wind turbine foundations. Shortly after, the GoliatVIND project received 2 billion NOK (175m EUR) in capex grants from ENOVA. By March, Kansai became Odfjell Oceanwind’s third-largest shareholder, strengthening the company’s position for future growth.
